Action Circles, a private political strategy and lobbying firm located in Vermont is seeking to hire two Legislative Interns for the upcoming legislative session. The internships begin with an intensive orientation in November 2021 and wrap up when the legislative session adjourns in May 2022. Our team provides the orientation in November and December with breaks for the holidays. We will work with successful candidates to determine the orientation schedule.

During the legislative session the internships are 32 hours per week, Tuesday-Friday. They are both paid positions. The session begins January 5th.

Interns to have the opportunity to learn the legislative process, how a bill becomes law and the development of the annual state budget. Interns will monitor committee work related to our clients’ issues, observe the committee process and provide detailed notes from committee hearings.

We encourage anyone to apply for our internships. Required skills and qualities include listening closely to what is said, typing notes as meetings are happening, being able to summarize key points quickly after a meeting ends, following instructions with an attention to detail, working in a team in a fast-paced environment, where your schedule may change often throughout the day, and a general interest in how policy is made and how government works. We can help you develop some of these skills as part of your internship; however, we will have high expectations from the start. A sense of goodwill and a willingness to go with the flow will be the most important qualities you bring at the start.

Action Circles offers its clients a full range of services, including political strategy, campaign planning, lobbying, media and public relations, materials and online content development, organizational capacity building, and meeting facilitation and design. Our interns will gain experience by observing and potentially participating in some of these activities, as opportunities arise.

It is unclear at this time whether the internships will be completely remote (as they were last year) or a hybrid combination of remote and in-person meetings. We will decide the safest way to cover state house activities when we know the General Assembly’s final plans for conducting legislative proceedings. Regardless, interns will need to be available for full days Tuesday-Friday throughout the legislative session. Reliable internet and cell service, as well as the equipment necessary to both watch live streaming meetings and take notes in google drive is required for this internship. Reliable transportation to Montpelier, VT during the week to cover potential in-person state house meetings or attend Action Circles meetings may also be required.

Please send a letter of interest and your resume to Cindy Metcalf at We will be interviewing and filling these positions as soon as possible.
